On Jan. 17, Dr. Janet Harris was recognized by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare in San Diego, California, during the society's annual International Meeting for Simulation in Healthcare conference.

Each year, the Society for Simulation in Healthcare honors those who have contributed sustained and impactful leadership towards the advancement of healthcare simulation science and its application to practice.

Harris is the director of the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command Medical Simulation and Information Sciences Research Program Joint Program Committee - 1. Harris received the Society's Presidential Citation in recognition of her significant national leadership in advancing the science of healthcare simulation through advocacy, development of research initiatives, program management, and financial administration.

"It is truly an honor to receive the Presidential Citation from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare," said Harris of her award. "This award really belongs to my USAMRMC colleague Dr. Kevin Kunkler and the entire medical simulation steering committee. It is wonderful that the Society for Simulation in Healthcare recognized the contribution of the Department of Defense."

The Society for Simulation in Healthcare seeks to improve performance and reduce errors in patient care through the use of simulation.
