Human Subjects Research Review Board Assumes Expanded Role
The U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command Human Subjects Research Review Board assumes expanded role as an Institutional Review Board providing support to Army Medical Department and Department of Defense Human Research Studies.
Maj. Gen. James K. Gilman, Commanding General, USAMRMC and Brig. Gen. Joseph Caravalho Commanding General, Brooke Army Medical Center, have directed that the Board be re-configured to assume additional responsibilities. The Army Medical Command has to support a rapidly increasing number of multi-site research protocols and other complex research initiatives.
In addition to its current mission, MRMC will serve as the IRB of record for research conducted by the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research.
This change in responsibility will allow BAMC IRB and DCI to devote their resources to address their expanded mission requirements in the Southern Regional Medical Command.
There will be more information about the transitioning of these missions after Jan. 1.
