The Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center, subcommand of the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command, won a 2010 Army Greatest Inventions Award for mCare, a secure mobile application that improves communication among wounded warriors, doctors and third parties.

The user-friendly, HIPAA-compliant application sends patients appointment reminders, unit announcements, health tips, and lets patients store healthcare information on their cell phones. mCare also provides access to a Web portal, where patients can update case managers on their progress and review feedback.

Since mCare's fielding in early 2010, wounded warriors have readily embraced this mobile tool. More than 600 users in 28 states and D.C. are receiving healthcare services across distances of over 600 miles. mCare has sent more than 96,600 secure messages and transmitted over 3,000 unique appointments, with more than 1,200 initiated by wounded warriors.

AGI nominees were judged by a panel of non-commissioned officers with combat and practical experience, as well as a panel of U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command field-grade officers.
