Over 300 participants have been trained from 17 countries; Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Rwanda, Burundi, Malawi, Mali, Nigeria, Cameroon, Gambia, Senegal, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Gabon, Thailand and Guinea Bissau. Malaria microscopy is still the Gold standard for malaria prevention, drug & vaccines treatment and diagnostic trials and for epidemiology. Though microscopy is an imperfect gold standard, its accuracy depends on innate ability, training experience and motivation. The MDCoE is part of the U.S. Army Medical Research & Materiel Command's overseas lab capabilities.
