Fort Detrick Armed Forces Week, 14-17 May 2012
The Fort Detrick Armed Forces Week Sporting/Recreation events are scheduled for Monday thru Thursday, May 14-17, starting at 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fort Detrick, Md.
There will be 18 events throughout the week:
Softball
The softball event will consist of twenty players, ten on each team, there will be a total of seven innings. After the fifth inning if a team is down more than fifteen runs the team will be eliminated. The winner of the game will move on in the event.
Longest Drive
The longest drive will be an individual event separated into a male and female category, seeing how far they can drive a golf ball. The furthest drive in each category will determine the winner.
Swimming
The swimming event will be an individual event separated into a male and female category, where the swimmers will swim one hundred meter and be timed, the fastest time will be the winner of this event.
Spades
The spades event will consist of four players, two on each team, they will play to five hundred and the first to five hundred will win. The winners of the game will move on in the event.
Dominoes
The dominoes event will be an individual event with four players per table and the winner will be the first to two hundred. The winner of the game will move on in the event.
Soccer
The soccer event will consist of twenty-two players, eleven players on each team. There will be two fifteen minute quarters and the team with the most points after the final quarter will be the winner and move on in the event.
Poker
The poker event is an individual event and the winner will be the last one that eliminates everyone from the games.
Two Mile Run
The two mile run is an individual event separated into a male and female category where the individuals will run two miles and be timed, the fastest time will be the winner of this event.
Volleyball
The volleyball event will consist of twelve players, six players on each team. The objective of this event will be for the first team to fifteen points. The teams will play three sets and the team that wins two out of three sets will move on in the event.
Homerun Derby
The homerun derby is an individual event where the individual will have the chance to hit ten softballs over the fence. The individual with the most home runs will win but if there is a tie the individuals will have the opportunity to hit ten additional softballs to determine the winner.
Bench Press
The bench press event is an individual event where there will be three weight classes for male and female contestants. The winner for each weight class and gender will be the one who benches the most weight.
Ping Pong
The ping pong event will be an individual event where two players will play ping pong to fifteen for three sets and the individual that wins two out of the three sets will move on in the event.
Powerwalk (Two Miles)
The two mile powerwalk will be an individual event separated into a male and female category where the individual will walk two miles and be timed, the fastest time will be the winner of this event.
Racquetball
The racquetball event will be an individual event where two players will play racquetball to fifteen for three sets and the individual that wins two out of three sets will move on in the event.
Three-On-Three Basketball
The three on three basketball event will consist of six players, three players on each team. The objective of this event will be for the first team to reach twenty-one points. The teams will play three games and the team that wins two out of three games will move on in the event.
Pull-Ups
The pull-up event is an individual event separated into a male and female category where the individual will do as many pull-ups as they can. The individual that performs the most pull-ups in their category will be the winner.
Free Throw Shooting
The free throw shooting event will be an individual event where the individual will have the chance to shoot twenty basketballs from the free throw line. The individual with the most free throws made will win but if there is a tie the individuals will have the opportunity to shoot ten additional shots to determine the winner.
Three-Point Shooting
The three point shooting event will be an individual event where the individual will have the chance to shoot twenty basketballs from the three point line. The individual with the most three pointers made will win but if there is a tie the individuals will have the opportunity to shoot ten additional shots to determine the winner.
The awards ceremony will be held May 18 on the Blue and Gray Field following the 3 mile formation run.
