Spc. Bryan Cantu recently has been selected as the U.S. Army Europe Soldier of the Week. Cantu joined the Army in 2011, out of Corpus Christi, Texas, after attending Delmar College. After completing Basic Training at Fort Benning, Ga., and Advanced Individual Training at Yorktown, Va., his first Army assignment was in Germany at the U. S. Army Medical Materiel Command, Europe in 2012. Cantu has proven to be an outstanding Soldier, and he is currently serving as an Optical Laboratory Specialist, helping to provide the "sight to fight" for our warfighters downrange, and all other eligible members of the Department of Defense, with authorized eyewear to improve overall readiness. While at USAMMCE, Cantu often asks for more responsibility. Due to his dedication to excellence, he has improved his Army Physical Fitness Test score by 31 points, and won his first Soldier of the Month board in November 2012, resulting in an early promotion to Specialist with only 22 months time in service. Cantu won another SOM board in February 2012 and will now compete at the Soldier of the Quarter board. He recently completed the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and high-yield Explosives, or CBRNE, course in Graffenwoehr to become the alternate USAMMCE CBRNE personnel. His outstanding motivation has earned him the title of "Can-do Cantu," and his expertise, loyalty, and commitment to USAMMCE and the U.S. Army place him notches above his peers.
