A U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command team of two Soldiers placed fourth overall in the 2016 Jack L. Clark Jr. U.S. Army Best Medic Competition at Joint Base San Antonio and Camp Bullis in Texas.

Capt. Dennis Kim, of the U.S. Army Medical Materiel Agency, and Sgt. Andrew Salas, from the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases, participated in the competition, which was held Oct. 25-28.

Kim and Salas were also recognized as the team with the highest physical fitness score.

The ABMC, sponsored by the AMEDD Museum Foundation, is a continuous 72-hour competition that consists of 23 scored events that range from tissue suturing to a 50-mile foot march. There's also a mystery event, which this year was cleaning a fish and prickly pear cactus, cooking and eating them.

Thirty-two teams, each with two medics, competed in this year's event, which was themed on major World War II battlefields, is open to all three Army components. Competitors must have earned the Expert Field Medical Badge and/or the Combat Medic Badge to be eligible to participate.
