You don't have to travel all the way to Hollywood to meet a superstar.

You only have to go as far as Utah.

That is where you will find Jeffery Franklin, a biomedical equipment technician assigned to the U.S. Army Medical Materiel Agency's Medical Maintenance Operations Division at Hill Air Force Base.

Franklin was recently named a USAMMA Superstar, a peer-nominated award given to staff who exhibit traits that make the team a success.

Franklin received the recognition for his dedication to duty and initiative while serving at one of the USAMMA's three depots. Franklin traveled to various locations, including Korea and Japan, to service and repair oxygen generators. His actions prevented more than 100 oxygen generators from being shipped to the depot, saving the government more than $200K in shipping costs. As a subject matter expert, Franklin also provided mastery level training for the oxygen generators to seven other biomedical equipment technicians.

"His colleagues regard him as a caring and compassionate individual with the highest of moral standards that are clearly reflected in his daily work and interactions," said Master Sgt. Hyun Kim, the non-commissioned officer in charge at MMOD-Hill. "He indubitably sets the example for the civilian and military workforce, and beyond."

The USAMMA Superstar award was created in July 2016. Franklin is the second employee to receive this recognition. Patricia Pinnix, a logistics management specialist assigned to the USAMMA's Foreign Military Sales, was the first. Pinnix, who has worked at the USAMMA for 24 years, received the inaugural Superstar award for her ability to develop and sustain relationships both internal and external to the agency. Her ability to work well with others enabled her to support numerous countries with their acquisition of life-saving medical materiel. Pinnix has supported sales totaling more than $198 million.

USAMMA Commander Col. Lynn Marm added, "I am proud of everyone at the USAMMA and am especially impressed with our superstars who continue to demonstrate that we are always stronger when we work together as a team."

Medical equipment maintenance and foreign military sales are just two parts of the USAMMA's vast mission. USAMMA operations comprise 19 locations worldwide, including three stateside depots that serve as distinct Centers of Excellence. MMOD-Hill is the COE for anesthesia, pulmonary and field medical equipment. MMOD-Tobyhanna, located in Pennsylvania, is the COE for audiometer calibration, optical equipment, dental hand-piece rebuild, the Military Entrance Processing Station Direct Exchange program, Table of Organization and Equipment lab equipment and the Army Medicine X-ray acceptance program. The third depot is the Defense Distribution Center San Joaquin located in California that serves as the COE for medical imaging equipment, special purpose testing, and measurement and diagnostics equipment.
