USAMRMC to Participate in Pentagon 'Lab Day' to Showcase Technology and Research
(Fort Detrick, Md.) -- DOD laboratories will showcase their most advanced technologies and cutting-edge research at the Pentagon Center Courtyard May 14.
The event will be hosted by Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics Frank Kendall and is designed to increase public understanding of the complexity and diversity of the DOD laboratory enterprise. Deputy Secretary of Defense Robert Work will deliver opening remarks at 10 a.m. in the Pentagon Center Courtyard and South Parking Area.
The U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command, which is the Army's medical materiel developer and responsible for medical research, development and acquisition and medical logistics management, will display several innovative research projects and have subject matter experts on hand to discuss their devices or knowledge products.
"The research that is being conducted at the USAMRMC is not only critical to the health and wellbeing of the nation's Warfighters, but also impacts the lives of civilians," said Maj. Gen. Brian C. Lein, commanding general of the USAMRMC and Fort Detrick and deputy for Medical Systems to the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology. "Clinicians in a civilian setting are taking the science and technology coming from DOD labs in areas, such as rehabilitative medicine, trauma care and infectious disease research, and are using it to save lives on a daily basis."
Members of Congress, local Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math students, media and DOD personnel are invited to the event. Journalists without a Pentagon building pass will be picked up at the Metro Entrance only. Plan to arrive no later than 9 a.m., have proof of affiliation and two forms of identification.
