USAMRDC

The U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command (USAMRDC) is the Army's premier organization for military medical research, dedicated to ensuring the health and readiness of Warfighters. USAMRDC conducts biomedical research to address the unique challenges faced by Warfighters, delivering solutions that enhance operational effectiveness and resilience.

USAMRDC works in close partnership with the Defense Health Agency Research & Development (DHA R&D), operating under unified leadership to ensure that research efforts are coordinated and aligned with Department of War priorities. Together, USAMRDC and DHA R&D leverage their combined expertise to advance military medical innovation and safeguard the health and readiness of America's armed forces.

Army Elements

U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine (USARIEM):
Conducts research on Soldier health and performance in extreme environments, including heat, cold, altitude, and physical exertion.

U.S. Army Aeromedical Research Laboratory (USAARL):
Focuses on aviation Soldier safety, including research on acoustics, vision, and blast exposure.

Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR):
A global leader in infectious disease research, brain health, and Soldier performance optimization.

U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID):
The Department of War's premier institute for bio-terror threat mitigation and infectious disease research.

U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research (USAISR):
Specializes in combat casualty care and life-saving medical innovations for battlefield injuries.

U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense (USAMRICD):
Focuses on chemical defense solutions, including nerve agent pretreatments and opioid countermeasures.

With headquarters at Fort Detrick, Maryland, USAMRDC remains at the forefront of military medical research, ensuring that Soldiers are prepared to meet any challenge, anywhere in the world. By working in tandem with DHA R&D, USAMRDC continues to drive advancements in military medicine that directly support Warfighter health, readiness, and resilience.
