Amendment Submission Instructions

• ACURO must review and approve significant changes/major modifications to animal work subject to ACURO oversight BEFORE the modifications can be implemented. Below is an abbreviated version of the ACURO Protocol Change Policy. For more detailed instructions and references, refer to the ACURO Protocol Change Policy.
• International Sites these instructions do not pertain to you, refer DIRECTLY to the International Protocol Change Form.

Significant changes/major modifications

• MUST be submitted and APPROVED by ACURO prior to implementation (see submission instruction section)

Submission Instructions (U.S. Institutions ONLY)

• Submit the documents listed below for processing to usarmy.detrick.medcom-usamrmc.other.acuro@health.mil
  • IACUC amendment approval
  • For changes in protocol PI, a signed ACURO PI Assurances MUST be provided.
  • IACUC approved amendment
• When submitting a revised protocol as an amendment, the protocol MUST be highlighted to show where changes can be found, specifically what parts of the protocol were amended. Alternatively, provide a detailed description of the changes made along with a statement that no other changes were made to the protocol besides those indicated.

Changes to a protocol that DO NOT need to be submitted to ACURO are:

• Administrative changes, e.g. correction of grammatical and/or typographical errors, contact information, etc.
• Personnel changes, with exception of the Principal Investigator
• Change of strain
• Decrease in animal numbers
• Change in housing and/or animal use location
• Changing from a more invasive procedure to a less invasive one (e.g., collecting less blood, doing fewer injections, postmortem rather than premortem sample collection)
