Protocol Submission Instructions

• Institutions performing Department of War (DoW) supported or conducted Research, Development, Testing, and Evaluation (RDT&E) or Training involving animals that report to the DHA Component Animal Oversight Office, ACURO, directly or via Memoranda of Agreement, must adhere to DoW requirements for administrative review and approval by ACURO. Below is an abbreviated version of the ACURO Protocol Submission Policy. For more detailed instructions and references, refer to the ACURO Protocol Submission Policy
• International Sites these instructions do not pertain to you, refer DIRECTLY to the ACURO Policy on Work Conducted in Foreign Countries.

Protocol Submission (U.S. ONLY- extramural, DoW-supported):

• Submit the documents below for processing to usarmy.detrick.medcom-usamrmc.other.acuro@health.mil
  • ACURO Animal Use Appendix
  • IACUC Approved Protocol (containing ONLY DoW funded work)
  • Documentation of IACUC Approval
  • Signed ACURO Protocol PI Assurances (the last page of the ACURO Appendix and International Protocol Format)
• Provide electronic copies of all documents (searchable PDF format is preferred)
• Do not include multiple protocols in one Appendix. Each IACUC protocol is a separate ACURO submission requiring a separate Appendix that describes only the work in the protocol it supports.
• Page numbers provided in the Appendix MUST align with page number in the protocol where the information regarding funded studies can be found.

• Submit the documents below for processing to usarmy.detrick.medcom-usamrmc.other.acuro@health.mil
  • Documentation of IACUC approval
  • IACUC approved protocol
