Institutions using United States Department of Defense (DoD) funds to support the use of animals in research, development, testing, and evaluation (RDT&E) or training must adhere to DoD requirements for administrative review and approval by the Animal Care and Use Review Office (ACURO). Below is guidance on protocol and amendment submission.
Protocol Submission
(extramural, DoD-supported but not conducted):
- Submit the documents below for processing to usarmy.detrick.medcom-usamrmc.other.acuro@health.mil
- ACURO Animal Use Appendix
- IACUC Approved Protocol
- Documentation of IACUC Approval
- Signed ACURO Protocol PI Assurances (the last page of the ACURO Appendix)
- Provide electronic copies of all documents (searchable PDF format is preferred)
- Do not include multiple protocols in one Appendix. Each IACUC protocol is a separate ACURO submission requiring a separate Appendix that describes only the work in the protocol it supports.
- Partially funded IACUC approved protocols MUST be highlighted to show where funded animal work is approved in the protocol submitted for ACURO review
- Page numbers provided in the Appendix MUST align with page number in the protocol where the information regarding funded studies can be found.
