The Army's Joint Telemedicine Network Implementation Team received 1st place in the Team Category for the 2009 DoD CIO Awards. This annual competition recognizes outstanding achievement in the Information Technology field from across the Department. In October 2008, the team began the upgrade of the existing network with Very Small Aperture Terminals. Today, CENTCOM has 22 VSAT systems in operation in Iraq, Afghanistan, Qatar, and Kuwait.
