Lt. Col. (P) Ladd Tremaine recently has been appointed as director for the Armed Forces Medical Examiner System at Dover Air Force Base, Del. In his new position, he will also serve as Chief Medical Examiner. Tremaine previously served as the Armed Forces Regional Medical Examiner-Europe, based at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany, where he was also Chief of Pathology.

As director, Tremaine leads an organization of approximately 300 military and civilian personnel that provides comprehensive services in forensic pathology, forensic toxicology, DNA technology and identification, and mortality surveillance for the Department of Defense.

"I am humbled and honored to have been selected as the next director of our great institution," said Tremaine. I am pleased to return to the organization and the people who have consistently made it such a great place to work and grow, both professionally and personally."

Tremaine previously served with AFMES from 2006 through 2009 -- one year as a forensic fellow, followed by two years as a deputy medical examiner.

His other assignments include Resident, followed by Chief Resident, Pathology, at Madigan Army Medical Center, Fort Lewis, Wash.; Brigade Surgeon, 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division (L), also at Fort Lewis; Chief of Pediatrics, Weed Army Community Hospital, Fort Irwin, Calif.; and Resident, followed by Chief Resident, Pediatrics, at Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu, Hawaii. He received his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Bethesda, Md., in 1995 and is a graduate of the University of Washington.
